Australian Open Returns To Melbourne With Its Biggest Summer Festival Yet

Australian Open set for a massive summer return

The 2025 Crown Australian Open is officially on and very much active, returning from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 December with one of the strongest fields Australia has seen in years. After more than three decades away, the tournament finally returns to The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, taking its place once again on the legendary Melbourne Sandbelt.

This year’s competition brings serious star power. Masters Champion Rory McIlroy leads the line-up alongside Aussie favourites Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, Min Woo Lee, Lucas Herbert and Cam Davis. For golf fans, it is a rare chance to watch some of the biggest names in the sport compete on one of the world’s most iconic courses.

Antonia Beggs, General Manager of Major Events and Operations at Golf Australia and PGA of Australia, says the stage could not be better set. “This December’s Crown Australian Open will be one of the biggest in living memory – a true celebration of golf at its finest at the renowned Royal Melbourne Golf Club on the famed Melbourne Sandbelt.” She adds that McIlroy’s appearance “will captivate fans from around the world and reaffirm the Australian Open’s position among the premier tournaments on the global golf calendar.”

But the Australian Open is no longer just a tournament; it has become a fully fledged summer festival. The social precinct, The 19th, returns beside the 18th hole and transforms the grounds into a lively weekend playground. It is Melbourne in its purest form: food, music, sunshine and atmosphere.

Visitors can expect premium drinks from the Asahi Super Dry Bar and the ISLA Vodka Lounge, plus top-tier eats from some of Melbourne’s favourite venues including Mr Miyagi, 400 Gradi, Fonda, Zeus Street Greek and LaManna. Families will find plenty to do as well, with interactive fun across the Callaway Odyssey Zone and the MyGolf Ripper Zone for younger fans.

Beggs encourages everyone to soak up the full experience. “Whether you’re a lifelong golfer or are experiencing the event for the first time, the event has something for everyone. Come for the golf, but stay for the atmosphere with incredible food, drinks, live music and live entertainment at The 19th.”

The theme for 2025, Moments That Make Us, captures exactly what the Open aims to deliver. From catching Rory’s opening drive to watching the sunset at The 19th with a cocktail in hand, this is the kind of summer weekend that defines Melbourne.
