‘On Top’ Opens At The StandardX, Melbourne
Fitzroy has officially gained a new rooftop hangout, and yes, On Top is already open and welcoming everyone. What was once a hotel guest-only space at The StandardX, Melbourne, has now been transformed into one of the suburb’s most compelling spots to drink, snack and take in the skyline.

Perched above 62 Rose Street, On Top blends design, energy and the creative spirit of Fitzroy. It has shifted from a hidden hotel perk into a fully accessible rooftop for locals, curious visitors and anyone chasing good drinks with better views.
The space fits around 60 people and has been crafted to feel warm, intimate and social. Woods Bagot shaped the architecture, while Hecker Guthrie delivered a design that mixes earthy tones, desert-inspired planting and light industrial touches that reflect Fitzroy’s character. Lounge seating and bistro tables fill the room, with a Corten fireplace honouring the suburb’s factory heritage. Bar ledges wrap the edges of the rooftop, giving prime sightlines across the city.

Melbourne’s weather is unpredictable, so the space has been designed smartly. A retractable roof and heating system mean On Top works year-round, whether it is blazing sunshine or chilly evenings.
The all-day menu brings American-influenced comfort in a refined, snack-driven format. Expect smoked ocean trout flatbreads, oyster mushroom skewers with chilli crumb, a brioche prawn roll with Gascony butter, wagyu sliders, fried chicken with hot sauce, cinnamon doughnuts and a vanilla mascarpone tart.

Drinks carry just as much personality. Aperol and yuzu margaritas are on tap alongside lager. Signature cocktails include Cloud Cover with apricot brandy and ginger, Nude and Rude with mezcal and amaro, and The Last Dance with vodka, passionfruit and citrus. The wine list, built with Lo Fi, highlights low-intervention Victorian producers. A Japanese-style vending machine stocked with pre-batched cocktails, wine and non alcoholic options adds a fun twist.
Weekends bring the soundtrack. Local DJs take over Friday and Saturday nights, plus Sunday afternoons, playing sets inspired by everything from 90s Brooklyn to Lagos coastlines and the soft glow of LA bars during golden hour.

On Top already feels like a natural extension of Fitzroy’s social life. It is the kind of place bound to spark those unplanned, stay longer than you meant to afternoons.
