else Bathhouse Set To Open In South Melbourne
Else bathhouse will open in April 2026 inside a heritage-listed building in South Melbourne. The new venue will introduce a three-level thermal bathing experience to the Emerald Hill precinct. It blends saunas, hot and cold baths and rooftop pools with preserved architectural features from the early 1900s.
The site once supported wool trading and Croft’s Grocery Empire. Visitors will notice exposed brick, an original lift shaft, historic murals and wool bale pulleys. These elements help link the new venue with the history of the area.
Across its levels, else bathhouse will guide guests through a structured bathing journey. The layout includes thermal baths, cold plunges, a mud and steam room, an alpine cabin and quiet lounges for rest between sessions. Each zone contributes to a steady flow intended to help guests unwind.

The rooftop area, known as Sky Bathing, features open-air pools with views of the Melbourne skyline. It offers an open, peaceful finish to the visit and distinguishes the venue from standard city spa settings.
The team plans to bring the concept to regional Victoria as well. A second location is being considered for the High Country town of Bright.
South Melbourne’s Emerald Hill precinct is known for its heritage buildings and local identity. Interest in thermal bathing continues to grow across Melbourne. The mix of preserved architecture, multi-level bathing spaces and rooftop pools positions else Bathhouse as a significant new addition to the wellness scene.
