Join the Two Feet & A Heartbeat Walk to support heart kids and families
Every step counts when it comes to supporting children and families impacted by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD). The much-loved Two Feet & A Heartbeat Walk returns from Saturday 18 October to Tuesday 4 November 2025, taking place in 31 locations across Australia, as well as virtually for those who prefer to walk in their own time and place.
Organised by HeartKids, the event honours both the challenges and triumphs faced by more than 250,000 Australians living with CoHD. Participants are encouraged to walk either 4km in memory of the four young lives lost each week to the condition, or 8km in recognition of the eight babies born each day with a heart defect in Australia.
A walk that makes a difference
The walk is not just about awareness, but action. All funds raised go directly into expanding accessibility of HeartKids’ support services in hospitals, local communities, and especially in regional and rural areas where access to healthcare can be limited.
HeartKids CEO Marcus Sandmann describes the event as a cornerstone in their mission:
“I encourage you to join Two Feet & A Heartbeat and walk with us to support our heart families with in-hospital services, family support programs and other vital resources.”
This sentiment is at the heart of the walk. It is about uniting families, friends, and volunteers to both remember those lost and celebrate the courage of children living with a heart condition.
Why your support matters
Childhood-onset heart disease is not only a lifelong medical condition but also one that significantly impacts families socially and economically. Recent studies show the annual economic burden of CoHD in Australia is estimated at $2.292 billion, including an approximate GDP loss of $12.89 million annually. Beyond the financial impact, children often face developmental and learning difficulties, making family and community support essential.
By participating in the Two Feet & A Heartbeat Walk, Australians are helping HeartKids provide critical services including:
- In-hospital and peer support programs
- Family camps and education days
- Financial assistance for struggling families
- Resources to help manage the challenges of a lifelong condition
How to get involved
There are many ways Australians can step up for heart kids this year:
- Walk 4km or 8km at one of the 31 events nationwide
- Join virtually and walk at your own pace, anywhere
- Get sponsored by family, friends, and colleagues
- Donate directly to HeartKids
- Sponsor a walker and show your support
More than a walk
For nearly 50 years, HeartKids has stood by families navigating the uncertainty of CoHD, offering advocacy, resources, and lifelong support. This walk is more than an event; it is a statement of solidarity, hope, and resilience for every child and family touched by heart disease.
